SS-037 Ver 1.1 (Oct 23)
1. Overview
Confidential & Proprietary | 2024 CBRE Inc.
With increasing threat levels it is important that CBRE properly secure our Clients assets. This starts at the perimeter of a site where it is important to deploy robust, reliable, and secure detection strategies mitigating operational risk. Perimeter systems are only the first line of defense. (IDS) Intruder Detection systems supplement PIDS through various forms or layers of control that integrate into a security solution providing real-time data create the ability to track and respond to intruders.
2. What are IDS and their purpose?
An Intrusion Detection System (IDS) is a monitoring system that detects suspicious activities and generates alerts when they are detected. Based upon these alerts, a security operations center (SOC) analyst or incident responder can investigate the issue and take the appropriate actions to remediate the threat.

Patrol Response
Systems are designed to monitor for intruder detection, fire and other associated trigger alarms and includes CCTV monitoring
General Alarm Panels
Systems designed to monitor multiple areas sensing movement and up to 360 degrees in viewing angle
CCTV Cameras
Intrusion Detection systems using Infra Red technology sensing movement
IDS
System is designed to monitor un-authorised barrier raising or tampering and triggers CCTV monitoring or voice activated response
Barrier entry
Primarily designed for high value areas such as Bank, Art studios using invisible Infra-Red beams that sense movement to a very precise measurement
Infra-Red sensors
Magnetic switches primarily used on access doors and when opened break the switch seal resulting in a response back to the monitoring station

Observe security infrastructure and provide a presence of proficient Security personnel
By providing Security personnel that are trained and that are capable of detecting.
Delay
Any item being attempted to be sent that is un-authorized into a building through the mail system
Response
Effective neutralization of an attempt to commit an unlawful act against the operation requiring the attendance of Security or other personnel and the Police with both means
Remember !! - The principles of Deter, Detect, Delay and Response apply to any Security operation

1. Overview
Confidential & Proprietary | 2024 CBRE Inc.
With Perimeter detection prompt and highly accurate location information of a would-be intruder ensures a fast and appropriate response to minimise any loss. We must ensure the perimeter intrusion detection system is fully integrated into a Security solution providing real time data creates the ability to track and respond to intruders. Fiber optic technology is fast becoming the technology of choice, especially for Clients looking to deploy a cost-effective reliable solution with significantly lower full life cost of ownership.

2. What are PIDS and their purpose?
PID systems are designed to identify the various warnings of unauthorized entry into a facility outside of official hours. Using high-end sensors and a sophisticated software to manage and monitor the status of the facility, alarms can be easily activated or deactivated, and SMS can be sent should trespassing be detected.
PID systems offer detection and early warning of attack without adding any visual indication of the increased security. It is a small discreet installation that does not attract any additional attention to the fencing or site.
3. Examples of PIDS available for Security purposes?
Security cameras on the property’s perimeter—motion-activated or live streaming—are affordable and user-friendly. To be effective, a security camera system needs live video monitoring.
A low-cost solution, motion-activated floodlights eliminate the cover of darkness and reduce overall risk as they provide additional lighting to an already-lit fenced or perimeter area.
Electrified fences deliver a non-lethal shock to anyone who touches them. They also can trigger an alarm when it administers the shock or if the fence is cut or disturbed. However, these are not highly recommended in high-traffic or large public spaces

Passive infrared (PIR) sensors detect motion by measuring infrared light—heat energy in the form of electromagnetic radiation. Any change is interpreted as a movement triggering an alarm. PIR sensors have an effective range of roughly 10 meters and may produce false alarms because of natural temperature changes.
These sensors require at least one transmitter and one receiver. The transmitter emits an invisible beam of infrared light aimed at the receiver. If a person walks through or stands between them, they interrupt the beam triggering an alarm.
Used on a fence or buried underground, fiber optic cable is a precise perimeter intrusion detection system. Typically employing vibration as the detection technique, fiber optic cable provides long-range coverage—up to 100 km per processing unit—with zero gaps.

4. Benefits of PID's
- PIDS offer robust protection because they monitor and detect the perimeter or boundary around the area they are situated in
- PIDS identify a threat before it can escalate.
- PIDS will activate nearby cameras to track and follow the intruder or vehicle, activate alarms or sirens as an auditory deterrent, turn on lighting as a visual deterrent, and activate live feeds or notifications so anyone who acts as security can take action
- PIDS cannot be deactivated or detected by intruders.
- Buried sensors can be completely invisible to threats
- Radar systems are small and discreet
- Fence-mounted PIDS are not visually impactful
- PIDS are much less noticeable so they will fit into almost any environment
- PIDS replaces the need for CCTV camera systems and the wiring that comes with them
- PIDS are energy efficient
- PIDS can be added as an extra layer to existing security
- PIDS filter out the causes of false alarms
- PIDS builds a robust, 3-ring security system
- PIDS can work on any scale and in any environment
- PIDS can be easily installed without much need for an existing framework or source of power
- PIDS are designed to work in any environment
