Background & Goals
- It is very time consuming to capture device counts for FLS pricing
- There could be 100's of devices per building
- Typically FLS is not a high spend
- Average #12 in category spend
- Often asset / device inventory is not readily available
- Our goal is to first evaluate within 15 minutes if a Fire Life Safety RFP is a worthy endeavor
2 Approaches
1. With Asset Data
2. Without Asset Data
- Get pricing direct from suppliers
- Utilize an asset gathering template linked here and below
- Request quote from Preferred and incumbent suppliers using the asset information received
- If the pricing calculator shows a savings opportunity of less than 10%, we recommend you do not pursue an RFP
- 10% or less savings may actually result in 0% savings if you decide to pursue an RFP
- The time input to get accurate pricing is likely not worth the minimal savings
- The Pricing Calculator is not intended to be 100% accurate, instead it is a measuring device to check if your price is in the right range
- If savings greater than 10% exists, then evaluate if the lump sum of potential savings is worth the effort
- FLS spend is $190,000 / year on average per account
- For example: $190,000 / year spend with a 15% savings opportunity = $28,500 annual savings potential
- The cost of switching providers and time involved may not be worth such a small savings
- Weigh supplier performance (incumbent and other bidders) as part of the decision to undertake and RFP for services.
- By themselves, savings are not likely to outweigh the cost of a difficult transition to a new supplier
- Consider incorporating price-per-device type matrix into price model
- Eases pricing corrections when asset data needs to be updated (either through data being incorrect or when assets are added or removed)”
